Disaster Awareness Week - Get Involved!

Disaster Awareness Week is 11-17 October. 
There are three exciting activities for Hawke's Bay students to become more aware and prepared and there are some great prizes for age group winners (5-8, 9-12, 13-17) including an iPod, T-shirts, torches and more.  So make sure you are into win. 

1. 'Get Ready Get Thru' poster competition

Design a poster to encourage your community to be prepared for a Civil Defence emergency.

  • Design must be completed by students (parental help is fine).
  • The theme should focus on what families or schools need to do to be prepared.
  • Poster should be A4 or A3 size with student name, age and school on the back.
  • During the last week of October, have the school vote on the best poster from each age range
  • Send your winning entries to the Regional Council by 31 October, attention: CD Manager.

2. Action Reaction interactive website game

Play the 'Action Reaction' Game!  Click on the Red Car  on this page, play the game, post your score, fill out your name age and email address and those in each age range with the most points will win a cool prize.   Only those that play the game during Disaster Awareness Week will the eligable players for this competition.   Don't worry if you can't see your name on the electronic score board, as only the quickest times can be posted and there are some tough times to beat!

3. 'Get Ready Get Thru' Activity

Look in your local paper during the week of 11-17 October and find the "Get Ready Get Thru' Activity based on the  'What's the Plan Stan' - match the survival items activity.

NB: Only students from Hawke's Bay are eligable to enter these competitions.
