Emergency Status Definitions |
No Emergency
There are 24/7 monitoring operations by CDEM Group 365 days a year which relies on warnings from Met Service, Insitutute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences and Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management, and other warning systems such as telemetry/flood warning.
Training Exercise in Progress
There is currently an Emergency Management Training Exercise in progress in Hawke’s Bay this exercise involves a number of organisations that contribute to integrated emergency management. For the duration of this exercise a number of staff form these organisations will be involved and this may interfere with some non essential business as usual activities
- Exercises are conducted to test interagency communication, decision making, response planning and resource deployment
- An exercise may be a simple test of information sharing procedures or a full activation of Emergency Operation Centres and deployment of staff and resources within Hawke’s Bay
Adverse Event
A hazard or incident of significance is imminent or has occurred and has impacted or may impact on the CDEM Group Area and may require response coordination, or the use of special powers, or considerable resources.
State of Local Emergency
A state of local emergency declared under section 68 or section 69 of the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002. An emergency means a situation that-
- is the result of any happening, whether natural or otherwise, including, without limitation, any explosion, earthquake, eruption, tsunami, land movement, flood, storm, tornado, cyclone, serious fire, leakage or spillage of any dangerous gas or substance, technological failure, infestation, plague, epidemic, failure of or disruption to an emergency service or a lifeline utility, or actual or imminent attack or warlike act; and
- causes or may cause loss of life or injury or illness or distress or in any way endangers the safety of the public or property in New Zealand or any part of New Zealand; and
- cannot be dealt with by emergency services, or otherwise requires a significant and co-ordinated response under the Act.
State of National Emergency
A state of national emergency declared under section 66 of the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002 |
